The Christian Education Committee stands ready to offer classes and adjust age groups, based on the needs of the children and the adults attending Sunday morning worship service. And Ms. Gayla is always ready in the Nursery for infants and toddlers during church school, worship, Welcome Wednesday, and most special activities.

Class Schedule:

Currently, the following classes are offered each Sunday,
beginning at 9:30 am:

For Children: These classes follow the lectionary, teach Bible stories and prepare children for participation in worship. Children and Youth classes meet in the Educational Building.

For Adults: The Inquirer’s Class uses the lectionary scriptures as a base for Bible study and discussion led by various class members. This class meets in the conference room in the Presbyterian Activity Center. The Sun Porch Class participants review and discuss popular Christian literature, such as The Purpose Driven Life, The Bible for Dummies, The Shack and 90 Minutes in Heaven. This class meets on the sun porch of the Education Building.

Vacation Bible School: is a joint program, with the First United Methodist and First Christian Churches of Kennett, for our church youth, as well as many other children from throughout the wider community. Children up to grade 6 enjoy a week of Bible study, arts and crafts, and games. Providing leadership for the program is a shared responsibility of the three churches. Adults and older youth volunteers are essential to the success of the program. To learn more about enrollment in Vacation Bible School, click on our “Contact Us” page and send us an e-mail.

Firelight Summer Enrichment Program: Since 1993, the First Presbyterian Church of Kennett has conducted a two-week summer enrichment program in July for community children. Although it first started as a program for our own children and their friends, it quickly evolved into a program in which we reached out to children in the community who are considered “at-risk.” We began calling the program “Firelight Day Camp,” named for the curriculum materials that were used during one of the summers. The children, in grades K-5, spend each morning learning Bible stories, practicing life skills (such as cooking, group dynamics, reading and art and crafts) and simply having fun at our church. Breakfast and lunch are served. Volunteers pick up and return the children to their homes.

Firelight Day Camp means:

Feeding Children - Body and Soul
Introducing Christ to Children in Need
Reaching Out
Exercising our Faith
Loving Those Different from Ourselves
Invaluable Volunteers and Workers
Grateful Children
Hometown Mission
Time Well Spent
